Mitch McConnell’s ‘Revealing’ Remarks About His Moral Red Lines Stun Commentators

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) gave a telling nonanswer to a dilemma about his moral boundaries that circulated commonly on social media Thursday.

“You are identified for enjoying a ruthless fashion of politics. Wherever do you attract your moral red lines?” Axios’ Jonathan Swan asked the Kentucky Republican in an interview.

McConnell joked that “my wife thinks I’m a truly great guy” and then explained he was “shocked to hear these kinds of a remark.”

“I’m perfectly comfortable with the way I’ve performed my political occupation,” he added when Swan pressed all over again, indicating he’d be delighted to react to specific illustrations.

Swan then cited McConnell’s speech in February 2021 adhering to the next impeachment vote in excess of previous President Donald Trump’s purpose in the fatal riot at the U.S. Capitol.

“You stated Donald Trump’s actions preceding the Jan. 6 insurrection had been ‘a disgraceful dereliction of duty’ and that he was ‘practically and morally responsible’ ― your text ― ‘for provoking the gatherings of that working day,’” Swan told the senator.

“How do you go from expressing that to, two weeks later on, saying you’d completely guidance Donald Trump if he’s the Republican nominee in 2024?”

Swan then puzzled if there was anything at all a Republican nominee could do to lose McConnell’s help.

The trade drew sharp rebukes from commentators on-line, numerous of whom interpreted McConnell’s reaction as an indicator of his fealty to his celebration in excess of the state.
