A Columbia Law School graduate recorded the joyous moment he and his mother found out he passed the bar exam on December 16. Alex Clavering, featured in the video, recorded this moment at his home in Long Island and posted it to Twitter. Clavering told Storyful he spent about four months preparing for the exam, which he took on October 5 and 6 in New York. The exam was virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions. The young lawyer said he got the results in an email. The video shows his mom waiting in anticipation as he downloads and reads the letter stating his results. Clavering can be heard saying, “I’m downloading it, I’m downloading it,” while his mother, peering over his shoulder says, “You are? Where is it?” Once the letter loads, he and his mother are silent for a moment before they both exclaim, “Congratulations!” and embrace. Clavering told Storyful he is currently working at the Legal Aid Society in Suffolk County as a public defender, and is interested in continuing to pursue public-interest work.
